Interstellar extinction and photometric two-dimensional classification of stars in the Coalsack

Sumario:Spectral types, absolute magnitudes, interstellar absorption and distances of 76 stars in the Coalsack are determined using photoelectric photometry in the Vilnius system. The UPXYZVS measurements confirm visual absorption of up to 5.6 mag in the main dark cloud at 200 pc from the sun and suggest the existence of another dust cloud at about 400 pc. This paper has been published in detail in Battic Astronomy, 3, 199 (1994).
