Orbital evolution of asteroids in the 5:3 conmensurability

This paper deals with the orbital evolution of 25 fictitious asteroids generated in the space zone corresponding to means motions in the 5:3 commensurability with Jupiter. Regarding the extension of the gap from a₁=3.63 UA. to a₂=3.76 UA. The eccentricities for t = 0 vary from 0.0 to 0.4. The solar...

Sumario:This paper deals with the orbital evolution of 25 fictitious asteroids generated in the space zone corresponding to means motions in the 5:3 commensurability with Jupiter. Regarding the extension of the gap from a₁=3.63 UA. to a₂=3.76 UA. The eccentricities for t = 0 vary from 0.0 to 0.4. The solar system model used includes perturbations from Venus to Saturn. The numerical integration of the equations of motion were performed with the N-Body Program by Schubart and Stumpff, for an integration time of 5x10⁴ years. The results can be analyzed considering the behaviour observed according to the initial eccentricities.
