Sumario:A review of the observational features of blue stragglers (BS) and their possible interpretations are presented. The binary hypothesis has been investigated by means of photometric UBV observations of 48 BS in old and intermediate age open clusters. One variable star has been found in NGC 2354, which resulted in a Beta Lyrae - type eclipsing binary with a period of 0.6388 days. This star is another possible case for mass-transfer in close binaries as the cause of BS. In addition, a statistical recompilation of BS in open clusters is presented. Some preliminary results including central concentration, relations between age of clusters and number of BS and some others are also reported.
