Sumario:With a long-lasting perspective, this article deals with the development of the arts up to a point where they have become, in the course of western modernity, a field of knowledge with its own languages and its own particular regulations. This shows the historical and cultural character of the organization of knowledge, and its differentlevels of articulation.
