Sumario:This article proposes a reflection on the text conceptions circulating in teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) and, secondarily, on the place of the texts in teaching materials and possible ways to approach. The reflection part of a survey conducted at the National University of Rosario, Argentina, and incorporates some significant data resulting from the analysis of didactic books of PLE. From a classical distinction between different text settings, the article shows that the conception that prevails in the books and the place that is given to texts in these materials. This is illustrated with examples taken from books in use. The analysis allows to demonstrate the need for progress in the development of teaching materials supported on closer text design of the current state of the text theories.
