Sumario:The current article presents the results of an analysis about the causal relations between communicative practices and the generation of interest in politics and political knowledge. The analysis focuses on a segment of the population, known as pre-citizens; that is, all those young people who are in the process of acquiring political information to participate for the first time in the political arena. For this, a survey was conducted in the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico, among students in their final year of high school, who would be voting for the first time in the Mexican presidential elections of July 2012. Through an analysis of structural equations, using the statistical package SmartPLS, the O-S-R-O-R theoretical model is tested to explain the communicative impact on the development of political attitudes. The results did not allow replicating the theoretical model in the context of Nuevo Leon. The only causal relationship that was observed was the effects of the interactive political conversation in generating interest in politics among respondents.
