| Sumario: | This article considers Latin America's economic and social development in a historical perspective (1945 to present). It looks at the current regional conditions within the world context, the US economic crisis, China's and other emerging economies, and Latin America's choices in a changing world economy. It views Latin America in two different spheres: South America and Mexico-Central America, emphasizing the dependence on the US economy, its ability to face the economic crisis, and strategies at the national and regional levels. Finally, it highlights the importance of the region's unity to tackle the challenges of the new world order. |
