| Sumario: | The rural settlements impact the environment in which they are created, and allow, among other things, to diversify the landscape and regional agriculture, through the rescue, conservation and use of agrobiodiversity. This study examines the management of agrobiodiversity in the rural settlement Monte Alegre, located in the region of Araraquara, São Paulo. Addresses the recovery of agricultural varieties and the management of local natural resources, as an expression of the multiple roles that family agriculture can play. We observed the maintenance of 18 crop varieties of 11 different botanical species. For the management of local resources, there was the collection and use of fruits, seeds and medicinal plants. The management and use of agrobiodiversity is geared primarily for the supply of farmers and their families, and can be enhanced by new approaches in rural development programs. |
