| Sumario: | The absorption of the GDR within the institutional structure of the FRG in October 1990was the result of the confluence of three factors: a) the dynamics of the bipolar internationalorder; b) the peculiar organization of their party systems and the nature of theirsemi-sovereign states; c) the irredentist nature of the policy of the FRG towards the GDR.These variables modeled the format of the unification process in 1990, which in turn influencedthe process of regime change started in 1989 and inhibited the endogenous processof democratization of the GDR. |
