| Sumario: | Based on such concepts as nation, nationalism, culture, identity, racial mixture, indigenous, Indian and Creole, Gustavo Vega-Delgado discusses in this essay the topic of Latin-American mestizaje, a key phenomenon in the cultural identity of the region. His statement is based mainly on examples related to Ecuador and Mexico, countries that he knows very well, but does not ignore examples in other corners of Latin America. This Ecuadorian academic and scientist review our history in the light of this process, from the beginning of the sixteenth century until today. |
