| Sumario: | The objective of this paper is to reflect critically on the naturalization of the field of patrimony as a field of social consensus and a de-politicized cultural tool. This article reflects on two related intangible assets cases: the tango, inscribed in 2009 on the Representative List of World Heritage (UNESCO), and the Carnaval de Buenos Aires, declared a Cultural Heritage of the City of Buenos Aires (1997). These expressions reflect conflicting processes of patrimonialization. Both carnaval and tango, to different degrees, have entered the field of intangible heritage within which different actors institutional (governmental and legislative) and social (murgueros, tango dancers, musicians, some institutionalized, as well as social sectors they participate as audiences, listeners) fight and struggle to impose their vision on the demonstrations. |
