Sumario:We address the debate on the possible declineof the U.S. empire, which developed above allduring the 1990s, by looking at the analysesof a series of critical and pro-United Statesauthors, during a conjuncture in which theeconomy of that country was experiencingshort cycles of growth and increasingly longcrises. The current crisis of capitalism goesbeyond its financial aspects and the spendingthat is occurring in order to overcome it isastronomical and is occurring in a very shortspan of time. In this context, the symbiosisbetween U.S. hegemony and transnationalcapitalism demonstrates that the crisis of one isinseparable from the crisis of the other.
