| Sumario: | The article intends to point out some elements related to the meaning, emergence, and development of think tanks (or groups of experts) particularly in the United States, country in which they emerged. According to the author, the spreading out of these groups to other regions of the world, with variety of topics and interests, opens the possibility of creating nets of intellectuals with influence on the international atmosphere. With regard to this matter, she expresses that such institutions ahve been important for the development of internal and external policies of the United States and they are an element that modifies the inner links of the developed and emerging countries. Through this essay the author provides an analysis of the concept and the historical development of the think tanks in the united states and, less deeply, in the Americas. She also analyses the role they have performed in the decision making process since the last century. |
