Sumario:The historiography of the Mexican Geological has focused on its professional and institutional development related to mineral exploitation between 1870 and 1910. This research delves into the contents geological journals published in Mexico City in terms of scientific literacy and theory, economic utility and recreation cultured for various Readers, as teachers, engineering students, entrepreneurs and the general public. The analysis of geological writings reveals the interest in certain sectors of the capital’s population by this science and the heterogeneity of the research carried out between 1840 and 1861
