description The global transformations of the last decade of the twentieth century reflect a reality of diverse and complex processes and phenomena, as well as a variety of peoples and cultures living in different regions of the world. The understanding of this whole process requires a construction effort that would allow a path capable of organizing a systematic manner throughout the body of elements that come together in their production. Thus, the article focuses on the study of Asia as one of the world’s social system beyond the Eurocentric visions, imposed by the thesis of Orientalism, and cultural diversity as proposed analytical perspective, because culture is a concept of paramount importance to the knowledge of human specificity. It also addresses the need to incorporate new disciplinary aspects from History, Anthropology and Social Psychology to the understanding of cultural differences as a way of establishing relations based on mutual respect to the identities. Finally, the author points out that culture is a framework for international relations and should be viewed beyond the role it has represented in the exercise of States’ foreign policy.
