| Sumario: | This article aims to the study of contemporary Maya narrative of Guatemala, particularly the texts of the winners of Mayan literature Prize B’atz '2007, Leoncio Pablo Garcia and Miguel Ángel Oxlaj Cúmez. Their texts will be studied according to the cultural dynamics of the current Mayan society, their symbolic system and their spirituality. Contemporary Mayan literature is a space for political and social reflections, which proposes a different way of interpreting reality, beyond the rigid adherence to a literary canon imposed from western culture. |
