Sumario:CLACSO (Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales) is a 30-year old academic network gathering more than 168 social science research and teaching institutions in 21 countries of Latin America and the Spanish Caribbean. Each of these institutions publishes journals, books, working documents and conference papers, which are not readily available because of high postage costs, reduced number of volumes printed and lack of interlibrary loan. In 1998 CLACSO decided to start promotion and training activities to encourage members’ editors to provide Web access to the electronic version of the print publications and at the same time CLACSO started a virtual library to provide integrated access to the distributed collections of e-documents available on member Websites.
