Sumario:Fifty-one referendums on issues related to the European Communities and their successor organisations have taken place since 1972, when Irish, Norwegian and Danish citizens voted on EC membership. As the European treaties up to now provided for their ratification pursuant to national rules, all these referendums have been held on the basis of national law. This working paper aims to give an overview on the respective national constitutional and legal bases of the EC/EU referendums.
