With liberal, conservative, radical, interventionist, popular, or extreme neoliberalism policies, Argentina has put more effort to strengthen the rural country rather than find alternatives. In occasion of the Bicentennial, this conference provides some clues to interpreting the performance of this agricultural specialization, a sign that distinguishes the country. At the same time proposes to reflect on current challenges in the agricultural sector, emphasizing the history and the “memory” as essential tools necessary to deal a reconstruction of rural Argentina with new basis, promoting and implementing genuine state policies. Si se repasan los principales hitos destacados de la historia agropecuaria argentina, se advierte una continuidad entre el pasado y el presente del país rural. Con políticas liberales, conservadoras, radicales, intervencionistas, populares, neoliberales a ultranza, la Argentina ha puesto más esfuerzo en fortalecer el país rural que en buscar alternativas. En la coyuntura del Bicentenario, esta conferencia presenta algunas claves para interpretar el desempeño de dicha especialización agraria, signo distintivo del país. Al mismo tiempo propone reflexionar acerca de los retos actuales del sector agropecuario, haciendo énfasis en la historia y la “memoria” como herramientas indispensables para encarar una necesaria reconstrucción del país rural con nuevas bases, promoviendo y ejecutando auténticas políticas de Estado.
