| Sumario: | This article analyses the formal recognition process of diaguita and kolla people in the Province of Salta, whose indigenous identities had not been considered by local institutions until the beginning of the XXI century. To achieve this, legislative and census policies were approached contrary to agencies involved in indigenous organizational processes in two decades (1983 -2003). It concluded in 2003 with an event that resulted in the representative incorporation of both groups to the indigenous institute of Salta. It was a turning point in both collective struggles and in the logical classification and administration of the otherness of the state.
