Sumario:In this paper we showed some changes, continuities, adaptations, successes and mistakes associated with the implementation of the intendants in Chiapas, especially the system of repartimientos during the late-18th century. The cases of Comitán and Zapaluta make evident that Indians and their ways of deliver tribute were the most affected, as well as their community treasuries and goods. Beyond success and failure, the monarch officers of the Chiapas intendancy continued to intertwine their government commitments with their personal interests, both leading to the control of labor, money, possessions, and services of the natives.
