The analysis is based on the visit of Bishop Lué y Riega, who toured chapels and parishes in both towns in 1805. The information provided by this document is put in relation to other sources and specialized bibliography, analyzing the importance of the ecclesiastical equipment in the government of towns and fields, highlighting similarities and specificities of each town. En este artículo se compara la situación de dos pueblos de indios del litoral rioplatense a finales del período colonial: Itatí, fundado por franciscanos en el alto Paraná, y Yapeyú, un ex pueblo jesuítico sobre el río Uruguay. El análisis se realiza en base a la visita del obispo Lué y Riega, quien recorrió capillas y parroquias de ambos pueblos en 1805. La información aportada por este documento es puesta en relación con otras fuentes y bibliografía especializada, analizando la importancia del equipamiento eclesiástico en el gobierno de los pueblos y los campos, destacando similitudes y especificidades de cada pueblo. Este artigo compara a situação de duas cidades indígenas na costa do Rio da Prata no final do período colonial: Itatí, fundada por franciscanos no alto Paraná, e Yapeyú, antiga cidade jesuíta nas margens do rio Uruguai. A análise é realizada a partir da visita de Dom Lué y Riega, que percorreu capelas e paróquias de ambas as localidades em 1805. As informações fornecidas por este documento são comparadas com outras fontes e bibliografia especializada, analisando a importância do equipamento eclesiástico no governo das cidades e dos campos, destacando semelhanças e especificidades de cada cidade.
