| Sumario: | Within the process of institutionalisation of physical education in Spain, the Spanish Gymnastics Federation was set up in 1898 to promote the creation and federated union of gymnastics and sports associations. However, this institution suffered from the political and cultural fragilities of a society that had not yet achieved a degree of democratic culture. The lack of political support and the tendency towards Castilian nationalism partly explain the failure of this federation, which, in turn meant the failure of the educational policy to provide real support to physical education in the country. |
