| Sumario: | Research on the Church in Rio de la Plata has been stimulated by other historiographical fields, such as agrarian studies, the history of justice, the history of missions or border areas, among others. A survey of these interactions shows that if, on the one hand, they made their approaches more complex, on the other hand, they often neglected the articulation of local spaces with the broader jurisdictions. This neglect is not exclusive to more recent work, and most of the “histories of the Church” have referred to the diocese very laxly and insufficiently. This article privileges the study of the religious devices in the construction of the bishopric of Buenos Aires and proposes a cartography that helps to restore the historical profiles of the diocesan territory. |
