Since the control of arms became control over the territory as well, the role of commanders became vitally important. Under the double dynamics that confronted subordinate cities with the capitals of the intendancies and the government of Buenos Aires, the conflicts that involved the commanders of arms and the puntano territorial corporation are evidence of the growing tension around the principle of self-government. |
