Sumario:The problem of child begging and vagrancy became essential in Azul and Tandil, especially, in the beginning of the new century. The aim of this paper is to analyze the results yielded by the efforts of benefactors who tried to achieve child protection in some towns of the province of Buenos Aires. Local media and documentary sources of institutions that had founded and maintained orphanages in Azul and Tandil, will be our starting point for thinking possible answers. We are interested in the way that the press has perceived the problem of childhood in the early decades of the twentieth century and in the different solutions that were implemented in relation to both boys and girls.
