| Sumario: | This article studies the forms of self-identification among applicants for state social assistance in order to investigate the popular conceptions of welfare, necessity, rights, and citizenship in Argentina in the mid-20th century. To do this, it describes the socioeconomic and political categories used, as well as the legal and moral attributes with which they were associated. The empirical analysis was carried out through the revision of more than three hundred social assistance requests addressed to state organizations between 1943 and 1955. |
