| Sumario: | From the analysis of work in the hotel industry in the city of Mar del Plata between 1950 and 1990, this article aims to approach, from a gender perspective, how the seasonal nature of the activity shaped the time dimension of work. We examined how the work carried out there challenged the androcentric idea that employment should be a stable and full-time activity. We argue that the heterogeneity that characterized the labor market can be addressed from the workers' uses of time. However, this analysis is not an end by itself but instead it allows us to reveal deeper aspects of work, daily life, family and gender relations at different historical moments. We observed how the seasonal work had a differential effect on the daily life of men and women, on their strategies to reconcile hotel work with other activities, whether remunerated or not and in the construction of identities. |
