Sumario:Between 1882 and 1996 the Federal Capital of the Argentine Republic was governed by a intendente, appointed directly by the President of the Nation. The article examines the main characteristics and public trajectories of those who have held this position. Based on a comparison of the different profiles, a typology is constructed in which a distinction is made between patricians, party men, technicians, businessmen and military men. The main features of each one are presented and a comparison is made taking into account the different types of government and the main political parties of twentieth century Argentina.
