Sumario:The nationalization of the party was one of the most important challenges that Propuesta Republicana (PRO) faced after its successful development in Buenos Aires City. Having forged a strong “party brand”, it is relevant to analyze the challenges that its expansion towards new districts supposed. Which strategy led to achieve national coverage and what setbacks came across in that process? What kind of cadres the party recruited and what organizational dynamics existed between them? This article analyzes the beginnings and development of PRO in Quilmes, province of Buenos Aires, describing the three branches that nurtured it since 2007 and its slow growth until its triumph in the municipal government in 2015, headed by an outsider. Based on archival work, in-depth interviews with officials and a review of the specialized literature, the article shows the strategy of “territorial penetration” privileged by the party center and the tensions and agreements that it entailed with local actors.
