| Sumario: | The article analyzes the relationship between Science, Society and the State in Argentina in the 1930s based on the case of the Asociación Argentina para el Progreso de las Ciencias. It is placed in the light of three issues: the growing role of the State in that decade and the way in which AAPC influenced it; the forging of a public discourse that promoted the idea of a science policy for Argentina; and the relationship with the private sector (especially industry). By the end of the period, transnational foundations (e.g., Rockefeller) gained ground, but without changing AAPC's concern for the development of a robust science system for Argentina. Thus, it will be argued that it is necessary to fully integrate the 1930s into the chronology of the history of science policy in Argentina and to return agency power to AAPC. |
