The interest in the study of this new relationship and its consequences is growing. . A descriptive epidemiological study of people with canine bite injuries was carried out from 2006 to 2008 in Arequito, Santa Fe, Argentina. A hundred and five injured people were interviewed -67% were adults, 21% children and 12% teenagers. Eighty-four percent of the lesions were located in the limbs, especially the lower ones (67%). The most common sites of attacks were public, 75%, and 46% of the attacks were caused by known dogs. Sixty-seven percent of biters were male. Aggressions were mostly from adult animals (83%), in general through chase associated with predation (48%). Thirty-six percent of animals had history of attacks to people. A typical victim is an adult male with lesions in lower limbs caused in streets by adult, medium-size male mongrels. No fatal victims were recorded but the severity of attacks was established by those children with facial lesions that required suture. El desarrollo y la urbanización han traído consigo innumerables cambios y modalidades en el vínculo hombre/animal. Es creciente el interés por el estudio de esta convivencia y sus consecuencias.Se realizó un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo de las personas con  lesiones  por mordeduras de perros durante los años 2006, 2007 y 2008 en Arequito, Santa Fe, Argentina.Se  encuestaron  105  personas afectadas. El 67 % de las víctimas fueron adultos, el 21 % niños  y el 12% adolescentes. El 84 % de las lesiones producidas se ubicó en los miembros, con predominio de los inferiores (67%) El lugar más común de ocurrencia de los hechos (75 %) fue la vía pública y en el 46% de los ataques se identificó a perros conocidos. El 67% de los mordedores eran machos. Las agresiones fueron cometidas principalmente por animales adultos (83%), en general por persecución asociada a depredación (48%). Un 36% de los animales tenían antecedentes de ataques a personas.La víctima típica  es varón adulto con lesiones en miembros inferiores, producidas en la calle por perro macho, mestizo, adulto y mediano.  Sin víctimas fatales, hay indicios de gravedad por la existencia de niños con lesiones faciales que requirieron sutura.Recibido:  May.2010 |  Aceptado:  Ago.2010Para citar este artículo:Alfieri, Arsenio.
