The following topics were selected: stages of tooth development, dentin-pulp complex and protective periodontium (spain tr.) that included gingiva, junctional epithelium and Nashmyth´s membrane. Each topic was developed following specific instructions, and text books on clinical specialties or journal articles had to be consulted. Students were able to identify differences and similarities in the terminology used to approach the same contents in the different bibliographic resources. They could observe more images of histological sections and more detailed diagrams in the book about basic clinics. They recognized the usefulness of the histological knowledge in research and they also valued the need of basic knowledge for clinical application. This teaching strategy enabled students to know the usefulness of the knowledge of Oral Histology and Embryology in an inter-related context, considering the way in which these contents will be recovered in the higher courses.

El objetivo del trabajo fue promover un aprendizaje significativo y la integración de contenidos básicos-clínicos mediante la aplicación de una estrategia de enseñanza innovadora en un grupo de estudiantes de la Asignatura de Histología y Embriología. Se propusieron distintas actividades en las que los alumnos debían reconocer la utilidad y el enfoque del contenido de histología y embriología especial (bucodental) en los recursos bibliográficos referidos a las especialidades clínicas. Se seleccionaron los siguientes temas: “estadios de desarrollo del diente”, “complejo dentino- pulpar” y “periodonto de protección”. Cada tema se trabajó con una consigna particular debiendo consultar libros de texto de especialidades clínicas o artículos científicos. Los alumnos fueron capaces de identificar diferencias y semejanzas acerca de la terminología con que era abordado un mismo contenido en las distintas bibliografías. Observaron mayor cantidad de imágenes de cortes histológicos y esquemas más detallados en el libro de la básica. Reconocieron la utilidad del saber histológico en la investigación. También valoraron la necesidad del saber básico para la aplicación clínica. Esta estrategia de enseñanza permitió al estudiante conocer la utilidad del saber de Histología y Embriología Bucodental en un contexto inter-relacionado, considerando la forma en que serán recuperados esos contenidos en los cursos superiores.
