Las manifestaciones populares en dictadura Luciani, Laura In studies on the last dictatorship in Argentine, a prolific line of research has been developed around social and cultural history. In particular, they seek to analyse the relationship between dictatorship and society, focusing on the diversity of social behaviours that were expressed between 1976 and 1983.  This article revisits two cultural phenomena already addressed in other studies: football and Catholicism pilgrimages as popular expressions that had a singular public manifestation during the dictatorship. On the one hand, it explores the organisational, communication and publicity strategies of the 11th World Cup organised in Argentina and the coverage and celebrations following the 2nd Youth Championship in 1979, held in Japan. On the other hand, it analyses pilgrimages to Catholic liturgical spaces and their expansion during the dictatorship, taking into account the transformations that were taking place within the Church. The central hypothesis is that, beyond their own dynamics, these were spaces that collaborated, without being an explicit proposal, in the construction of a homogenising national identity that, for a brief period and partially, converged the objectives of the regime.
