| Sumario: | The artisanal fishermen of the Ciénega de Michoacán have sustained an ancestral lake tradition passed down for generations. Apparently, the robustness of their local fishing institutions has provided them with margins of containment in the face of the environmental, social, economic and regulatory challenges they experience in their territory. In this study, we analyze the relationship between official institutions and local institutions that intervene in the performance of traditional fishing in Lake Chapala. From a neo-institutional approach, the objective of the work is to problematize the relationship that exists between the official formal norms that regulate the fishing activity and the local tacit regulations that fishermen deploy to carry out their work. Who is a fisherman and who is not; how much is allowed to catch and with what gear; where catches are allowed and how; how to do the work of fishing, are some of the questions studied. |
