Sumario:This article aims to describe and analyse the meaning constructed around the railway career and the agency of the women workers involved in this sequential process. It is argued that women who work in this activity with high male participation undertake into a search for professional respect and new projects that expands their agency even in a restrictive framework. At the level of micro-social analysis, the methodology used is based on content analysis of in-depth interviews and observations made in workplaces and in a labour union branch, in contexts of modernisation and gender politics on the metropolitan railways of Buenos Aires.
