| Sumario: | This paper inquires about the participation of the Argentinian socialists on the annual celebrations of the Italian Unification on the 20th of September, organized by the Italian local community in the city of Buenos Aires. Because these celebrations took a central place in the building of an Italian identity among the immigrants, we study the participation of the Argentinian socialists to understand the way they dealt with the challenge of organizing the immigrant workers in that community. This paper seeks to answer how the Argentinian socialists resolved the contradiction between class and nation identities in their effort to organize the Italian immigrant workers. For that purposed we analyze their journal La Vanguardia, between 1894 until 1910. |
