| Sumario: | On 11 March 2016, the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf approved its Recommendations in regard to the submission made by Argentina on 2009 to base the demarcation of the outer limit of the continental shelf of the whole national territory. This fact placed the issue under consideration of both national political leadership and public opinion. The proposal of this paper is a description of the maritime area continental shelf to try some conceptual clarifications which will allow a clear understanding of the question. First, we describe the doctrinal evolution and rules on the continental shelf, both nationally and internationally and, in the final itmes, we refer to the work of the National Committee on the Outer Limits of the Continental Shelf who was in charge of the preparation of the Argentinian submission, the main aspects of the Recommendations of the Commission, and its legal implications for our country. |
