Sumario:This article aims to systematize the external and domestic factors that trigger international relations of non-central governments. In order to do so, it focuses on Paradiplomacy as a concept, middle-range theory and field of study within International Relations; identifies its methodological weaknesses and revisits several conceptualizations that have contributed to its object of study. It argues that despite its critics and marginality within IR, Paradiplomacy has tackled the phenomenon from a satisfactory theoretical perspective; yet it should introduce new research techniques in order to overcome some of its main methodological weaknesses. In that regard, the article concludes with some basic ideas and suggestions.
