Sumario:Abstract. Argentina's defense policy is characterized by significant achievements, most of which were obtained in the first two decades after the restoration of democracy in the country: it has established adequate civil-military relations, consolidated the direction of defense by the political power, resolved almost all of the country's border conflicts, and, with the help of an intelligent foreign policy, created common ties with neighboring countries through regional integration. However, an initial error, exacerbated over the years—a sharp budget cut that deepened over time, without restructuring the Armed Forces to adapt their structures to budgetary possibilities—led to a progressive degradation and obsolescence of the Armed Forces' material resources and impaired their training. Likewise, various imbalances in personnel and setbacks in defense objectives occurred, without the political leadership taking measures to address these issues. All of this have significantly reduced the country's defense capabilities.   Key words: political direction, integration, budget, restructuring, obsolescence.
