They even move beyond this question towards focusing on how to reconcile with a past that has been hushed and erased, with real consequences in the present. Movement also plays into memory in the novels through the characters’ forced and voluntary movement. I use movement here in a broad sense that includes literal movement between different spaces and movement as something symbolic such as jumps in time, movement in the text and narrative itself, and between languages, for example. This article will argue that Glissant’s notions of créolisation, opacité, and relation help to frame the comparison and shed light on the processes the characters are under in both novels. It also furthers the connection between memory and movement when the characters in both novels. Finally, this paper will also reflect on the writing in both texts and how the texts’ instability is maintained in its movement in translation. En las novelas Loin de mon père de Véronique Tadjo y La saison de l’ombre de Léonora Miano sus autoras luchan por crear una memoria sobre algo que la gente no quiere enfrentar o de lo que se niega a hablar y buscan reconciliarse con este pasado que se ha silenciado con consecuencias en el presente. El movimiento se relaciona con la memoria a través del movimiento forzado o voluntario de los personajes. En este artículo ‘movimiento’ se entiende de manera amplia, incluyendo el movimiento literal entre diferentes espacios y el movimiento como algo simbólico para marcar saltos en el tiempo en las novelas, ritmo en la escritura y cambios de un idioma a otro. Se argumentará que las nociones créolisation, opacité y relation propuestas por Édouard Glissant ayudan a enmarcar la comparación entre las novelas e ilustran los procesos que definen a los personajes en ambas novelas. También ilustran la conexión entre la memoria y el movimiento en ambas novelas. Finalmente, se considera cómo la escritura de ambas autoras y su figura como escritoras africanas en la diáspora son cruciales para la construcción de memoria y movimiento en sus textos, movimiento que genera inestabilidad al moverse entre idiomas.
