Sumario:This article aims to reflect on concerns that were raised by the experiences of our thesis defenses in the PhD in Social Work at the National University of Rosario. From the evaluations made by the jury, fellow Social Workers, informal exchanges were generated that led to the need to objectify certain questions that usually circulate in professional debates. The axis on which they revolve responds to indications in the opinions regarding deficiencies in the theses presented by not explaining the “disciplinary” view, considering that it should be recovered as a specific section in the research work or, failing that recommend guidelines for professional practice. Thus, using these exchanges as discussion triggers, we ask ourselves: What are the objects of knowledge in Social Work? What is the use of fostering research instances and the consolidation of doctoral careers? What is the “contribution” that the production of knowledge in Social Work performs in the field of social sciences? This article outlines some hypotheses that can become argumentative inputs to think about these questions.
