| Sumario: | The article seeks to describe and analyze the welfare provision of the direct food delivery policy during 1983 and 2023. Analyzing food assistance policies contributes to problematizing a specific dimension of care provision as it exposes the way in which the state actor carries out activities to satisfy the basic needs of the existence and reproduction of people. To support the thesis of ‘social policy assistance’ (Falappa and Andrenacci 2009; Andrenacci, 2002), national direct food assistance policies implemented in Argentina between 1983 and 2023 were studied. Primary and secondary sources were recovered that made it possible to gather empirical evidence for the analysis proposed in this article. In the investigation, aspects are identified, described and analyzed that configure a scenario with particular characteristics that enables the deployment of welfare of state intervention in terms of the direct provision of food. Thus we will account for the transition from its residual character to a massive one and the change in the target population since unemployment required addressing its consequences on the daily life of families, a situation that was not a ‘problem’ until the return of democracy in 1983. |
