Sumario:The article intends to contribute to the reflection on the relationship between the contemporary transformations of social policy in Argentina, particularly into the socio-assistance registry, and professional practices in Social Work. Under an exploratory approach, supported by documentary analysis, we focus on the types of social action that arise from three simultaneous trends of change in the field: the territorialization of assistance; its monetization and massification; and the expansion of social security. In this sense, we argue that two differentiated logics of socio-assistance intervention have been installed, in proximity and in distance, which summon the profession in a differential way. The writing characterizes those logics, the demands and demands towards professionals in Social Work, as well as the controversies around the proximity/distance pair generated in the process. The conclusions recover these discussions to propose a non-essentialist and non- exclusive mode of conceptualization of said categorical pair.
