| Sumario: | The conception of Mental Health existing in a society at a given moment also responds to the idea of person or subject that predominates in that context. This is also linked to a question of power and it is important to mention that the diversity of explanatory models and the persistence of different social representations of mental illness make an integrative model or a single definition criterion of mental health or illness unfeasible. The methodology adopted for this paper was qualitative, through the collection and analysis of documents, since these tools had the necessary characteristics to approach the proposed objectives: to account for the situation of the transgender population in relation to mental health and the COVID 19 pandemic. The identities of transgender people have been stigmatized and associated with crime, sex work, problematic substance use and mental disorders. This paper seeks to make visible how this population has been affected in relation to the issue of mental health, since it has become visible that certain health care has been reduced in order to privilege or prioritize the care that was most urgently required; the care linked to COVID-19. |
