En este trabajo se busca sistematizar las funciones que posee la utopía desde el punto de vista del discurso literario y cómo se van plasmando a lo largo del texto La caída del águila de Carlos Gagini. Además, se analiza cómo, a partir de dichas funciones es posible la construcción de espacios utópicos, como la Isla del Coco, en el que se manifiesten los anhelos del autor por unificación de la región centroamericana y su desarrollo tecnológico.
