It constitutes an endorheic basin. It was a cattle ranch since the arrival of the Spanish conquest.From the beginning of the 19th century until the present, a small mountain sector located to the west of it was exploited intermittently, and by various actors, as a gold mine.This work consists of historical research. It serves as a support for the interpretation of the results of archaeological surveys and monitoring that have been carried out since 2004 in order to establish the chronology and authenticity of the remains of existing facilities. La zona de Gualilán, en el centro de la Provincia de San Juan, Argentina, es un valle longitudinal de la Precordillera de San Juan, que constituye una cuenca endorreica. Fue estancia ganadera desde la llegada de la conquista española. Desde principios del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad, un pequeño sector serrano ubicado al occidente de ella se explotó intermitentemente, y por diversos actores, como mina de oro. Este trabajo consiste en la indagación histórica que sirve de apoyo para la interpretación de los resultados de las prospecciones y monitoreos arqueológicos que se realizaron desde 2004 a fin de establecer la cronología y la autenticidad de los restos de instalaciones existentes. A zona de Gualilán, no centro da província de San Juan, Argentina, é um vale longitudinal da Precordilheira de San Juan, que constitui uma bacia endorreica. Foi uma fazenda de gado desde a chegada da conquista espanhola. Desde o início do século XIX até aos nossos dias, um pequeno sector montanhoso situado a oeste do vale tem sido explorado de forma intermitente como mina de ouro por diversos actores.Este trabalho consiste numa investigação histórica para apoiar a interpretação dos resultados das sondagens arqueológicas e do acompanhamento efectuado desde 2004, a fim de estabelecer a cronologia e a autenticidade dos vestígios das instalações existentes.
