description It exposes methodological tools to analyze the emergence of the modern Andean city from the pre-Columbian origins of Quito, Cuenca, Latacunga and Manta that would still influence its urban presence. Its present, affected by globalization, led to think of the Andean city as a new phenomenon that does not forget its past. It is verified how the capitalist cycle initiated in the 16th century implanted urban forms that took advantage of existing structures, but created conditions for their conceptual and practical overcoming. The study used archaeological and cartographic information and, in its fieldwork, georeferenced aerial photogrammetric resources to verify hypotheses about their original plots in order to contribute to the debate on the subject and to find syntheses about the physical-urban continuity and discontinuity of these cities. The critical historical knowledge, beyond the geometric descriptive, led to conceptualize the modern Andean city within the physical-social totality in the perspective of its transformation.

Expone instrumentos metodológicos para analizar el surgimiento de la ciudad andina moderna a partir de los orígenes precolombinos de Quito, Cuenca, Latacunga y Manta que aún incidirían en su presencia urbana. Su presente, afectado por la globalización, llevó a pensar la ciudad andina cómo fenómeno nuevo que no olvida sus pasados. Se verifica cómo el ciclo capitalista iniciado en el siglo XVI implantó formas urbanas que aprovecharon estructuras existentes, pero creó condiciones para su superación conceptual y práctica. El estudio usó información arqueológica y cartográfica y, en su trabajo de campo, recursos ae- rofotogramétricos georreferenciados para verificar hipótesis sobre sus tramas primigenias para contribuir al debate sobre el tema y encontrar síntesis sobre la continuidad y discontinuidad físico-urbana de estas ciudades. El conocimiento histórico crítico, más allá de lo descriptivo geométrico, llevó a conceptualizar la ciudad andina moderna dentro de la totalidad físico-social en la perspectiva de su transformación. Ela estabelece ferramentas metodológicas para analisar o surgimento da moderna cidade andina das origens pré-colombianas de Quito, Cuenca, Latacunga e Manta, que ainda influenciam sua presença urbana. Seu presente, afetado pela globalização, nos levou a pensar na cidade andina como um novo fenômeno que não esquece seu passado. Ele verifica como o ciclo capitalista iniciado no século 16 implantou formas urbanas que tiraram proveito das estruturas existentes, mas criou condições para sua superação conceitual e prática.
