| Sumario: | Between June 18th and 21st of 2025, the 28th edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held in the Russian city of the same name. This event, which over the course of four days brought together more than twenty-four thousand participants from over one hundred and forty countries, is much more than a mere platform for discussing the current economic agenda. So, what is SPIEF really about? In order to clarify the main features and scope of this platform, this commentary pursues three specific objectives. First, to describe the origins and evolution of SPIEF in light of the geopolitical transformations of recent decades; second, to highlight the main themes and outcomes of the 2025 edition; and finally, to identify the implications and potential this forum holds for the countries of the Global South. |
