The points made by Taylor and Lévi-Strauss are further examined in the light of recent developments in the philosophy of history in relation to the concept of narration. The confrontation allows us to understand challenges posed by the construction of history from material sources. Se analizan dos obras de mediados del siglo XX que abordan la construcción histórica por parte de la etnología, la etnografía y la arqueología. Se abordan las dificultades que conlleva la producción de historia en relación a sociedades que carecen de documentos escritos. Los puntos señalados por Taylor y Lévi-Strauss son posteriormente examinados a la luz de desarrollos recientes de la filosofía de la historia en relación con el concepto de narración. La confrontación permite comprender los desafíos que implica la construcción de historia a partir de fuentes materiales. São visitadas duas obras dos meados do século XX que abordam a questão da construção histórica por três ramos da antropologia: a etnologia, a etnografia e a arqueologia. Nelas, examinam-se as dificuldades da produção da história em sociedades carentes de documentos escritos. Os pontos indicados por Taylor e Lévi-Strauss são examinados à luz dos desenvolvimentos recentes na filosofia da história em relação ao conceito de narração. O confronto permite compreender os desafios que implica a construção da história a partir de fontes materiais.
